Why should I see a periodontist?
If your dentist has referred you, that reflects a conscious decision by your dentist to take action and gain control of your oral health. A periodontal referral may indicate that your periodontal health is in need of extra care, and your dentist will share in the responsibility with us to bring your oral health back to good standing. An implant referral is the next step if your dentist feels an existing tooth may no longer be in good health or if you are currently missing a tooth. In either situation a dental implant could be used to regain a tooth’s important function.
On the occasion where you have not been referred by your dentist, we are still happy to see you for care. You may not be content with the esthetics of your smile, or you may be aware that your periodontal health is not in a good state. You are taking the initiative and that is a great thing! We do not require a referral in order to see you for a consultation or for treatment, but we will send correspondence to your dentist to notify them that you are receiving treatment and what steps might need their help along the way.
How long will my treatment take and what costs are involved?
These are great questions to consider, unfortunately the factors are different for every patient. Implant and Periodontal Professionals will do our best to disclose how many appointments will be needed and all cost for future treatment by drawing up a treatment plan at the time of your initial consultation. This treatment plan will outline the steps involved in treatment if necessary and the cost at each step. We are happy to submit a pre-treatment estimate to your current insurance plan to approximate how much your insurance will cover.
Will my treatment be uncomfortable?
Although visits to the dentist can make some patients anxious we strive to make the experience as comfortable as possible. For those patients who are interested in experiencing less of their appointment, sedation options are available and will be discussed prior to treatment planning.
During the initial consultation Dr. Schmalz with thoroughly review the treatment and what to expect afterwards. We provide patients with the appropriate aftercare to make the experience as comfortable as possible.
